The bile ducts play a key role in transporting the bile produced by your liver to your intestines. This substance is used for digesting fats in the body and would build up, thus leading to the scarring of your liver. Bile ducts could become scarred or blocked in adults when you suffer from a severe infection in any part of the body. In kids, the blockage could be triggered by biliary atresia when the bile ducts are absent or damaged.
