4Genetics
Certain genetic factors play a part in depression and mood issues. However, scientists have not found out which exact genes contribute to the risk. In general, a family history of this condition can be a major risk factor. You are more prone to depression when other family members have this issue or similar problems. In fact, up to 40 percent of cases are related to genetics. Having a grandparent or parent with depression can even double the risk.[4]
