12Long-Term Outlook
The overall outlook for those with a borderline personality disorder can vary, depending on the underlying cause, treatment option, age, gender, and other environmental factors. Though it is a lifelong condition, symptoms can improve over time. However, it takes time to recover. According to some studies, the remission rate in adolescents is from 50 to 65 percent. Nevertheless, it is still possible that certain signs would remain even when you do not meet any diagnostic criteria.
With help and support, people with a borderline personality disorder can return to normal life. Other people who are unable or unwilling to follow a treatment plan would have a poor outlook. In general, symptoms tend to peak in middle age and then subside when you reach 30 years old. [12]
