12Smoking and Drinking
Smoking excessively would increase the risk of developing arthritis. Tobacco products contain a lot of harmful substances, especially nicotine. When your body is exposed to these chemicals for an extended period, it would result in damaged cartilage and bone loss. The same goes for alcohol consumption. Therefore, it is better to limit your daily intake of alcoholic drinks such as beer or wine. Also, quit smoking to reduce the risk for you and other people around. Consult your doctor for some supportive methods. [12]
