12Swelling
Another possible symptom of amyloidosis is swelling in different parts of the body, especially legs and feet. This condition is caused by fluid retention when amyloid proteins build up in the kidneys. Since they are responsible for filtering excess fluids from the blood, amyloidosis would damage and prevent this mechanism. As a result, fluid will accumulate and cause swelling. While diuretics are often the best option to alleviate this symptom, some lifestyle changes can also help. These include having a low-salt diet, wearing more comfortable clothing, or putting on fitting shoes. Avoid drinking too much water as well to alleviate fluid retention. [12]
