When you have allergic asthma, you typically are in respiratory distress or breathe heavily to get more oxygen. This eventually engages accessory muscles which are located around the neck. They are also known as the scalene and sternocleidomastoid muscles. Thus, you might notice some deep outlines around these areas. In addition, the muscles between the intercostals or ribs would be pulled inward. They help lift your rib cage when you are breathing in.
