4Imaging Tests
Certain imaging tests can create images inside the body to help determine how acute lymphocytic leukemia progresses. Common options include:
– X-rays: This technique uses X-rays to determine the presence of a lung infection or enlarged lymph nodes around the chest.
– CT scan: Also using X-rays, this procedure can make cross-sectional and detailed pictures of the body. It can be used to identify suspected cancer cells in some organs.
– MRI scan: This approach uses strong magnets and radio waves. They can scan the spinal cord and brain to look for cancer cells.
– Ultrasound: This is a simple test to identify enlarged organs in the abdomen, such as the spleen, liver, and kidneys.
Since this form of cancer does not often form tumors, these procedures are not as useful as they are for diagnosing other forms. [5]
