8 Common Causes of Osteoarthritis

5Occupation

The risk of developing osteoarthritis may increase when your job involves repetitive tasks or putting too much stress on the joints. Some occupational activities that may increase the risk include sports, walking a lot, climbing steps, lifting heavy objects, as well as squatting or kneeling for an extended period. All of these tasks would speed up the wear and tear of the cartilage and eventually cause premature osteoarthritis. Commonly affected joints by occupational factors include hips, knees, and hands. Some studies have found out that the risk is highest in people working in farming and agriculture for more than 10 years. [7]
