6Huntington’s Disease
Another possible cause of brain atrophy is Huntington’s disease. This is an inherited condition which progressively breaks down the nerve cells in your brain and triggers brain atrophy. It often occurs in mid-life and affects many functional abilities, both mental and physical. Many people with Huntington’s disease often develop signs in their 30s. However, it can also emerge later or earlier in life. If left untreated, the disease would lead to some problems with psychiatric, cognitive, and motor functions. Some medications or drugs are available to help alleviate the symptoms, but they cannot prevent the behavioral, mental, and physical reduction caused by the condition later in life. [6]
