11Ruptured Spleen
The spleen is an important organ located in the left upper part of the abdomen. It is the largest organ in the lymphatic system and is responsible for ensuring the balance of bodily fluids. Mononucleosis can make this part become enlarged and, though rate, eventually rupture. This is an emergency that would cause life-threatening or massive internal bleeding. Though the spleen is not needed for good overall health, you can be at risk of an infection when it is removed. So, if you notice any symptoms of mononucleosis, it is better to avoid intense physical activities and contact sports. [11]
