9Swelling
For those with severe COPD or progressing to the advanced stage, you may experience swelling in the ankles, legs, and/or feet. This happens when the blood vessels are deprived of oxygen needed for healthy function, and, as such, places a strain on the heart. This strain results in a fluid building which makes your feet, ankle or leg get swollen. Swollen legs and others may be due to damaged lungs. Thus, it is important to report this COPD sign to your doctor immediately you notice any changes in this body part.
