13Muscle Abnormalities
Though most of these things are not easily tested in a clinic or your doctor’s office, however, some studies have shown that people with fibromyalgia have basically three types of muscle abnormalities.
Biochemical – some patients with fibromyalgia have their muscle-cell chemicals in abnormally low levels, which is responsible for ensuring that the muscles have enough calcium. Low levels of the muscle-cell chemical cause the muscles to stay contracted as opposed to relaxation.
Structural and blood flow – researchers have pointed out that people with this condition have tiny blood vessels (thick capillaries). This means the muscles are not getting the right amount of oxygen-rich blood or necessary compounds for the proper functioning of the muscles.
Functional – Experts are yet to the rationale behind this, but they suggest that the stress and pain of the condition itself might result in a reduced function of the muscles.
