10 Treatments for Appendicitis

2Antibiotics and Abscess Drainage

When the doctor cannot diagnose the exact cause of appendicitis, they may prescribe antibiotics. This option is suitable when the symptoms indicate a medically treatable or nonsurgical cause. Antibiotics can be injected intravenously to prevent an infection. This is normally a possible treatment for children. It is important to follow the guidance of your doctor to ensure the effectiveness of antibiotic therapy. Do not stop taking antibiotics without their suggestions. [3]

The appendix may rupture and burst, which leads to the development of an abscess. In these cases, the doctor needs to drain the abscess to prevent it from spreading. This can be done by putting a tube into the abscess through the skin. The drain can be left in the abscess cavity for a few weeks. Your doctor needs to complete this procedure at least 1 or 2 weeks before proceeding with an appendectomy. [4]
