10 Facts of Ischemic Stroke

4Causes of Ischemic Stroke

As said above, an ischemic stroke happens when the artery that transports blood to the brain is suddenly blocked by a fatty buildup or blood clot. This blockage would occur in the skull or at the neck. Clots often begin in the heart and move through your circulatory system. They would break up on their own or get lodged in the artery. When they block a brain artery, your cognitive system will not receive sufficient oxygen or blood, making the cells begin to die.

Ischemic stroke triggered by a fatty buildup occurs when plaque breaks off from the artery and moves to the brain. In addition, the plaque would accumulate in the arteries that provide blood to the cognitive system and narrow these arteries to trigger ischemic stroke. When the oxygen flow to the brain is significantly declined or totally stopped, it leads to global ischemia, a more serious form of ischemic stroke. This condition is mainly triggered by a heart attack and some other conditions like carbon monoxide poisoning. [4]
