For example, benzodiazepines and corticosteroids are mostly reported to the development of this condition due to their pharmacotherapeutic agents, which might affect your throat and change the breathing patterns. Some other drugs that can also lead to hiccups include anesthesia, chemotherapy drugs used to relieve cancer, methyldopa to treat high blood pressure, morphine to reduce pain, barbiturates to prevent anxiety, or sedatives like benzodiazepines to avoid seizures, and corticosteroids to alleviate inflammation.
