A few ethnic groups have a higher risk of developing lupus than others. These include Pacific Island descent, native Hawaiian, native American, Hispanic, Asian, and African. Caucasian people seem to develop milder manifestation of the condition. The survival rates are also higher in those people from the African or Asian groups. The exact cause of this difference is still unknown. However, most scientists believe that it might be caused by some genetic and environmental factors. [10]
