Quite several bone marrow diseases cause anemia. Red blood cells are formed in your bone marrow, but when this material is infected, the production of red blood cells is hindered.
Leukemia is one of those cancer-like disorders that affect the bone marrow, causing it not to produce enough red blood and white blood cells. Another of its kind is myelofibrosis. These diseases cause a type of anemia called aplastic anemia. It can be mild or life-threatening depending on the severity of the underlying causes.
