5Hormone Changes
In some women, flare-ups of eczema tend to occur during the menstrual cycle. Studies have shown that this has something to do with hormonal changes. Before a menstrual cycle, the level of progesterone and estrogen in the body is decreased, this leads to a loss of water in the skin and affects the capability to retain moisture. As a result, dryness can happen and worsen symptoms of eczema. The same problems can be found in pregnant women and those during menopause. It is impossible to avoid this trigger completely, but you can consult your healthcare provider to regulate hormonal levels. During these periods, you should also moisturize more frequently to reduce the risk.[5]
