CVS Plans to Expand into Health Care Services

CVS Health has just announced its plan to expand its health services by including dietitians, medical space and equipment for the regular yoga classes to 1500 stores in the next few years.

On Tuesday, the company announces that it will set up a recently tested model of health store called the HealthHub. This type doubles the space for health care and aims at supporting people with chronic health issues.

The plan takes place when its competitor – Walgreens – is just having new primary care facilities and when the health care system in the United States is focusing on keeping patients fit rather than waiting to treat sick people.

CVS executives believe that the firm would play an essential part in this movement by raising people’s awareness about health care routine.

“Our main goal is to provide people with more health services which can be accessed easily,” said Alan Lotvin, Vice President of CVS Health.

But the company might face some questions about their underlying motivations, let alone competition from hospitals and doctor groups which also work to keep people healthy.

In addition to providing services with dietitians and experts, HealthHub stores also provide customers with an opportunity to be examined for eye issues, consult pharmacists about their treatment options, and track their blood pressure.

CVS Health had reduced areas for seasonal items to include community spaces which could be used for free nutrition classes or chair yoga programs.

The changes were first tested in Houston in 2018. The company is planning to add more to the current market this year and expand to other areas, including Tampa, Philadelphia, and Atlanta. CVS executives expect that they would operate 15,000 stores by 2021.

At the same time, Walgreens also starts including primary care facilities next to its stores in Houston in cooperation with VillageMD. The company also tests clinics in Kansas, which aims at older people. They hope to improve access to health care for the customers.

“Our population is aging,” said Pat Carroll – Walgreens executive. “It can be challenging in many areas to find a health care service.”

Many public health experts believe that drugstore services would make it simpler for many people to seek medical support. However, they said that it is important for the doctors to get informed on all care, particularly when the patients take some prescription drugs and have some health issues before.
